Does anyone of any ideas for a Christmas Eve service. We usually have it by candle light. Just wondering if there are any new and maybe different songs to use. Maybe a different way or different time to take communion. We usually close with communion time at the end of the service with people walking up to the table to take it. Just looking for fresh ideas. Thanks |

Wow, I'd love to hear some fresh ideas...we usually do the same thing you do duck...One year my old church did a Christmas cantata that was part narration, part song about the Savior's birth, and it was a very nice difference in the service for Christmas eve. |

Since it is a candle light service, how about the song Go Light YOur Candle by Chris Rice?? Not much of a Christmas song but a good message. |

Last year we did "It's Christmas Time" (City on a Hill), "O Come Let Us Adore Him," "O Come All Ye Faithful" (Kim Hill version), "Rose of Bethlehem" (Selah), Silent Night (played only on guitar), Joy to the World, Hark the Herald Angels Sing (new version). |

We plan on reviving something we did a couple of years ago. We took two 4X8 sheets of plywood, hinged them together, cut and painted them as if they were a music book, then painted the staff, notes, and lyrics to a Christmas song on the side facing the congregation, (well, we painted what would fit on the plywood sheet...not a whole song)... as if the "book" was open. We built supports for the backside that would help hold them up. We built two of these, and placed them on opposite sides of the stage area, and lit them with "soft" spots on the floor. The spots we covered with something...I don't remember what...we also rented two large screen television's, placed them on opposing sides, and showed pictures that had been taken over the years, some Christmas time, some not, of our church families, while we played Christmas Carols, and had the power point up for lyrics.
We are in a gym and we also had about a dozen Christmas trees, and some other types of trees that were contributed, all lit up around the gym with the new style LCD Christmas lights. Once we turned the gym lights out....it was magical. Created an awesome mood for worship on Christmas Eve.... |

We were just discussing this at our last practice. What to do since Christmas eve is on a Sunday. Have an evening service or no? Let the morning service be styled like a Christmas eve service? With no standing choir we seem to have commitment problems for a Christmas choir or full cantata piece. |
