member since: 1/11/2006 The pastors and I don't want a traditional christmas music service. We all want something upbeat and non traditional, Something either alternative or with a little soul to it. So far I've got Behold the Lamb of God, and a song with a chorus that goes Hossana, Forever we worship you. Both of these are a mix gospel choir deal. Any suggestions would be greatly appretiated. I've only been on staff for less than a month and really have to play catch up to pull off a christmas music service. SO HELP PLEASE!

member since: 9/24/2004 hmmm...the obvious question becomes "how" non-traditional?....we've done many carols in a "non-traditional" way in the past.....the Bare Naked Ladies "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" / Jars of Clay "Little Drummer Boy" / even Hillsongs "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing" from their 1st Christmas cd (not this years) is more "gospel-ly". We've "rocked out" on "Go Tell it on a Mountain"....there's many ways to "non-traditionalize" songs/carols.....a lot of it depends on the abilities of your worship band....there's a song called "What I Want For Christmas" by a band called "Big Tent Revival" on a Christian Christmas cd called "Absolute Christmas Favorites" which is very "non-traditional"...as a matter of fact, I wanted to do it this year, but got voted down.....one day, though...

member since: 9/24/2004 Oh, I forgot...we once opened with a Christmas service with myself and another lead guitarist doing a rocking version of "Carols of the Bells"....which went over great....we did a "call and echo" version with the electic guitar eventually switching to distortion guitar when playing the rhythm parts....a la'"Nickelback", and then switched parts back and forth...then added a harmony line...and then switched back and forth....it was fun and *very* non-traditional....but as always....when doing something like that...your taking a chance....some will like it...some won't......

member since: 5/28/2003 great advice from rainsong, and maybe doing some songs like "here i am to worship" and other songs that are more modern and about Jesus coming down to earth. God bless, gavin.

member since: 2/26/2004 the one we are going to do this year is Facedown by Matt Redman. It isn't upbeat, but it is a great song for worshiping God and I will probably preface it with someone reading the account from Luke 2 (maybe even Linus:)

member since: 1/11/2006 Well non traditional as in no carols. I've got two from Kirk Franklin if that tells you anything. Now Behold the Lamb and Hosanna. Which I'm most definately simplifying a whole buch for Hosanna. This one starts in C and goes up to 5 flats (I'm tired and don't feel like figuring what that key is) Who in the world plays in a key with 5 flats!...........................................Well I've got an awesome second keyboardist who can play better than I can so I can actually lead the songs without having to play them. I think if I were to gave everyone the stuff they could do it if we simplified it. I'm just stuck and one of my lead singers had an awesome medley but her house flooded and the music was destroyed before she could get it to me. So now I'm really stuck! So any more suggestions would be great................................................I'm gonna check out that what I want for christmas one thanks so far guys.

member since: 7/29/2008 You want something that will lift your congregation & praise the birth of Jesus? Try "Magnify" by Mark Condon. It is AWESOME!!! Our church is racially diverse & everyone loved it. I wish he had a new one this year. He's amazing! I don't have a large choir, but they have such heart & worked from Aug. to Dec 7th last year. We were so blessed by this music. Try it---but you gotta have SOUL!!!

member since: 10/18/2004 I've always liked Selah's Light of the Stable for something really upbeat. It isn't "upbeat" but I added a verse to Here and Now by Paul Baloche to make it more of a Christmas song--I know illegal so sue me.
