member since: 8/7/2006 Hey guys/girls, I work at a fairly large (600 in worship) church and each December we have a big Christmas program. Last year we had a worship service with about 8 songs and some scripture reading. sounds very minimal, but it was quite good. the year before that we had a drama that was obviously a little more work. here is the point of my post...what have you done at your churches for special Christmas programs? Not necessarily worship services, they can be community wide dramas, concerts, etc. any ideas?

member since: 10/18/2004 We do something called "round table" where we take out all the traditional chairs and put in round tables and decorate with all the trimmings. We then put on some sort of program. We've done everything from a musical to a variety show to a worship service with small drama vignettes in between. The whole church gets involved with serving and greeting the people. We serve sparkling cider, cookies and pie. We advertise throughout the whole community including in the newspaper and on the radio. At the end is always the presentation of the gospel and an invitation--to accept Christ not necessarily to our church. We have people from different churches join us in putting this together. It used to work out really well with a woman's event prior to the musical where a woman or a couple of women would "adopt" a table and decorate it in their own unique Christmas ware and then invite their friends. There are random drawings for door prizes and a catered dinner served by the men in the church. There is usually a couple of songs and again the presentation of the gospel. This is more of a one on one evangelical outreach where everyone is encouraged to invite friends who are not Christian but love Christmas.

member since: 8/7/2006 hahaha..well, I am never this "ahead", but if we do a big drama then we need to get going pretty soon. Crazy but true. I don't like it.

member since: 8/22/2003 Fellowship Church in High Springs, FL has been doing a "Bethlehem Live" for several years. On part of their acreage they build the town of Bethlehem complete with a "well", livestock, shops, and a temple. The church members are the cast. Some years they give guided tours - other years they let the visitors wander. At the exit of the "city" is a nativity play (~10 min). As you can imagine, at the temple they discuss questions from the visitors and pray over an needs from the visitors. Its quite an undertaking if you are interested.

member since: 8/7/2006 Nate..i was talking about "getting ready this early" is what I don't like. Like I said before, I am horrible at planning ahead. "Bethlehem Live" is a VERY large project, not sure we would do that. My parents church does it and it is almost a year round thing.
