His Banner Over Me
It's comforting to imagine that wherever I go, there is this banner of love, this "grace umbrella" over my head. I am under the care and watchful eye of Someone who has my best interests at heart. I wrote this song during a worship service at the Vineyard in Anaheim, California, using portions of Psalm 23 for the verses. I can trust the Great Shepherd will take care of all of His sheep, including this little lamb.
Heavenly Father
I've joked in the past that laundry is as never ending as the love of God! Actually, I was folding clothes when the Lord got my attention for this song. I had an overwhelming sense that He wanted me to stop what I was doing and go sit at my piano. Within ten minutes, the words and melody flowed out like a love song, as a reminder to me that no matter how busy we get with the stuff of life, our Heavenly Father still longs for our fellowship.
Pour Out Your Love
I was sitting by myself having a sweet time with the Lord when this song came. It speaks of contentment. I've found that I'm most content "when my spirit is willing to rest in His presence." He allows us the privilege of knowing Him and His love when we earnestly seek Him in those quite moments. And the result? We slowly over time look more and more like Him.
In Remembrance of Me
Perfect for communion, this song is borrowed straight from scripture. When we celebrate communion, it is an opportunity to remember what Jesus did for us when He died on the cross. Hopefully, we also use it as a time to look at ourselves, examine our hearts, and confess our sin before God. It is a holy moment, an invitation. I'm so glad He has provided a way for us.
I Want to Follow You
This song is a prayer that can be used as a response hymn or during an altar call. It is different than most songs, structurally. There are no verses. No bridge. Nothing fancy. Just one simple chorus. As we are reminded of God's goodness and the Holy Spirit touches us, we are moved to respond in some way. This song helps put into words our desire to abandon ourselves and wholly follow Christ. It seemed to be most appropriate to close the album saying, "Lord I Want to Follow You."

Reign on Me
Not to be confused with "Rain on Me," this song is one of total trust and surrender when we allow God to truly reign in our lives. He's the One who gave us life to begin with. We can show honor and appreciation by giving ourselves back to Him. He has proven faithful and trustworthy, and He knows what's best for us. So, let Him reign!
We Have Come to Worship Him
When I wrote this song, I was aiming to write a great service opener, a call to worship. I started thinking about what it is we do when we gather in God's house. Why do we come? This song answers that question: we come to worship, to lift Him up, to be reminded of how great He is.
There is Joy in the Lord
I was driving through a valley on a freeway in Southern California with my two children sitting contentedly in the back seat. Looking out of my car window at the beautiful green hills and clear blue sky, I sensed the Lord's presence. The song was finished in my mind before I arrived at my destination. Through the years, God has shown me that there is nothing the world has to offer that compares with the joy of the Lord. And we can experience that joy even in the valleys of life.
Glory Be
This song was written while I attended a church service in Texas and was originally recorded as a ballad on What Matters Most. We've added an energetic twist for this new recording, and it works well either way. In concert, I'll ask if anyone in the audience knows sign language. Then, I'll invite them on stage to teach the audience to sign the chorus of this song. Getting the audience to participate in something they may never have tried before reminds me of how God's idea of worship is far bigger than we often think. It's beautiful to watch.
You, Oh Lord, Are My Refuge
This song is very special to me because it is the first worship song I ever wrote. Based on Psalm 91, it has that 6/8 feel similar to Twila Paris' "He is Exalted" and Michael W. Smith's "Great is the Lord." In fact, we used to medley it with those songs. I love the visual picture of remaining "under the shadow of His wings."
Humble Me
I love the message of the familiar song "Humble Thyself in the Sight of the Lord." Sometimes, however, we can sing a song so much that we sing on auto-pilot. I wanted to write something about humility before God, and this song is a prayer that we could be found right where the Lord would have us-in His will. When we think about His holiness and His mercy toward us, how can we help but be humbled as believers? That is when worship really happens, when we are humbled before Him.
We All Need Jesus
With a real feeling of expectation in the words, this song is another call to worship. It is a song that asks, "What does the Lord have for us this morning?" calling us to anticipate His presence, knowing that He will speak to us through His word and the worship. As we recognize our need for Jesus, we will experience His arms of love waiting to welcome and embrace us.
