Verse Text: Once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder, the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish.
In an acronym for worship, I think the w should stand for wonder, for how can we truly worship God without a sense of wonder? He is so much greater than our knowledge of him, and that greatness causes us to wonder about the part we do not know. Wonder also explains why worship cannot be confined to quiet moment in cathedrals. Worship happens when we stand beneath a clear Montana sky and wonder at the artistry that created such a backdrop. It happens when we pause to listen to the surf crashing against a California coast or hear the trills of a canary or gaze at the tiny fingers of a newborn baby. Pondering such things should move us toward worship.

Some have called Christmas the season of wonder because it’s a time when we wonder how God became a baby crying in a stable, how heaven orchestrated an angelic concert for a handful of shepherds, and how a place such as little Bethlehem was chosen for Jesus to make his entrance. Considering this, it should not surprise us that the prophet Isaiah said, “His name shall be called Wonderful” (Isa. 9:6 kjv), meaning literally “full of wonder.” Our God is full of wonder, and saying we don’t understand everything about him may be one of the smartest things we can ever say!
