Verse Text: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work
of his hands.”
Recently driving through Scotland, I was reminded again of the wonder of creation. The rolling hills, beautiful lakes and misty countryside mornings spoke of a majestic God, the author of creation. It was hard not to respond in worship and be amazed at the glory of God.Psalm 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” We read again and again of creation being caught up in God’s praise - bursting into song at the thought of their Maker. I love the passage in Job 38 when the Lord speaks to Job about the creation asking, “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?” (v4) “...while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy?” (v7) What an amazing picture! In Colossians we discover that not only were all things created through Jesus, but every moment creation is sustained by Him. Colossians 1:16-17; “For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”

Creation and God’s people cannot help but respond to the glory of God. He created us for His glory and one day will live in eternity before Him. If we were not to respond to God’s glory then, as Jesus said to the Pharisees, “the stones will cry out.” (Luke 19:40) To think that God’s glory is so great that it demands a human response. If not, then even the plain old stones would start crying out in praise. When we consider the works of God’s hand and His powerful ways, we too will join creations cry and praise the ‘Maker of all things.’You shaped the heavens and the earth revealed Your splendour You spoke Your life into our hearts And we belong to You You are the Maker of all things, First and the last Creation sings praise to You God You’re reigning in glory Ancient of days Your people sing praise to You God Creator God in You all things now hold together Working Your wonders day by day You’ll reign forever And earth joins with heaven declaring Your glory Proclaiming the works of Your hands
