Verse Text: Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, And marked off the heavens by the span,
And calculated the dust of the earth by the measure,
and weighed the mountains in a balance And the hills on a pair of scales?
Let My Words Be Few (written by Matt and Beth Redman) You are God in heaven And here am I on earth So I’ll let my words be few Jesus I am so in love with YouAnd I’ll stand in awe of You Yes I’ll stand in awe of You And I’ll let my words be few Jesus I am so in love with You There are times when our hearts are so full of praise because of who God is, that our lips MUST speak forth His glory – that songs MUST come forth from the very depths of our soul. There are many times when the only right thing to do is to shout joyfully to all the earth of the wonderful works God has performed not only in our personal lives, but in all of creation. Psalm 145:6-7 says, “Men shall speak of the power of Your awesome acts, and I will tell of Your greatness. They shall eagerly utter the memory of Your abundant goodness and will shout joyfully of Your righteousness.” Scripture commands that we speak forth His praises and let our voices make known the incredible riches of His goodness, love and power.

But there are also times when words fall short of anything that would be appropriate when considering how unsearchable and how awesome God truly is. This happens when we recognize who we are in light of who He is. We too often have a small view of God while we elevate ourselves higher than we ought. The logical result is that we don’t see God as being the immeasurable and infinite Creator of all that exists, but rather we see God as manageable. When something is manageable, we are more quickly able to utilize words to describe it – and put boundaries around it. But when something (or Someone) is too big to comprehend, as God is, there are often no words that do any sort of justice. We are left speechless and can only stand in silence as our finite minds try to comprehend all that God is. What does it really mean to stand in awe of God? What happens when we see God as awesome? The dictionary defines awesome as “something that inspires reverence, fear and wonder.” To stand in awe before the Lord means that we see God as One who inspires reverence, fear and wonder in the depths of our soul. We cannot treat this God as ordinary – we must respond in a God-sized way to a God-sized God. And we need to turn to Scripture to obtain an accurate view of this awe-inspiring God.
