We communicate with God like we communicate with our family and friends - we talk to each other, we listen to each other, we share our thoughts, dreams, worries, we ask advice and we seek guidance etc. To get the most out of any relationship, we must be honest.

Prayer is how we communicate with God. Like we need to be with our friends and family, we must be honest with the Lord.

Sometimes we find it hard to be honest with God. A lot of the time this is because we have the mindset that he will be angry with us - if we perpetually think that God will be angry with us every time we mess up it will only make our Christian walk harder, we will end up pushing God away and making it harder for us to be honest with him.

The key to being honest with God is that we must know that he is all-knowing, all-forgiving and all-loving.

"But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness." Psalm 86: 15.

The Psalms are described as a collection of song-prayers. The most striking aspect of the psalms would probably be the honest in which they were written.

The words in the psalms often describe how we are feeling, there is not an emotion that we feel that is not written about in the psalms. Most of the psalms speak to God or speak about God.

Because they were all written in a variety of situations, different aspects of God's character are mentioned. As you read the psalms, ask yourself if this is the God you know.

Making these psalms our prayers can teach us so much about how God wants us to communicate with him.

Too often we give God a toned down version of our feelings, hoping we don't offend him or make him curious of our motives, as if he doesn't already know.

The Lord knows everything about us.
