The Blessing | Song Devotional

August 11, 2020

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26, NIV

God is for you.

I can’t think of a more powerful, more hopeful, more truthful statement to declare during this season.

You’re not alone. You’re never without hope. You can believe God for the next moment. You can trust Him for what you need. The circumstances around you might feel uncertain. But you can stand on the certainty that your God is faithful. He’s not surprised. He’s not shaken. And He won’t leave you or forsake you.

That’s what The Blessing is about. It expresses the heart of God over us, then our responding to it and receiving it with Amen.

My husband, Cody, and I were in Charlotte, North Carolina when we wrote it. We had been with Pastor Steven Furtick and Chris Brown from Elevation Worship for a day of writing when, as we were about to finish, Pastor Steven began singing around the Aaronic blessing in Numbers 6.

We were tired and ready to go home. But what transpired in the moments that followed was such a sweet gift from Father God. The song became us simply framing scripture into melody. And I love what it declares…

The Lord bless you and keep you

Make His face shine upon you

And be gracious to you

The Lord turn His face toward you

And give you peace

Amen, Amen

Amen, Amen

May His favor be upon you

And a thousand generations

And your family and your children

And their children and their children

May His presence go before you

And behind you and beside you

All around you and within you

He is with you, He is with you

In the morning, in the evening

In your coming and your going

In your weeping and rejoicing

He is for you, He is for you

Friend, this is THE BLESSING from God over us. He loves you. He is with you. He is for you. And in a season of such fear, loss, and disappointment, I’m so thankful we have the opportunity through this song to sing scripture and declare truth into the atmospheres of our hearts, homes, and nations.

May you experience God’s supernatural presence, peace, and favor in your life, the lives of your family, your children and their children!
